I was sitting with my daughter the other day, and somehow we ended up talking about the Salem Witch Trials. I explained to her what actually happened back then, how women were burned at the stake for using their intuition to help people, for doing the exact same kind of work I do every single day.

And as I was telling her this story, watching her little face take it all in, I asked her the question that had been sitting in my own chest. I said, could you imagine mommy being burned at the stake for using her gifts to help people?

And without missing a beat, she looked at me and said, "Mom, I would have been burned at the stake too."

I sat with that for a moment, because you see, I have raised my daughter to trust her own inner knowing. I have taught her to listen to her intuition, to talk to her angels and her guides, to trust the things that come into her awareness instead of dismissing them. She is fostering her own intuitive gifts right now, at her age, and that is exactly the same ability every single one of you reading this has inside of you too.

And here is what that conversation taught me. The sooner we start showing up authentically as who we truly are, the less we need to hide ourselves away in the closets and in the shadows out of fear of how the world is going to receive us. If we have learned anything from the women who came before us, it is that the world does not need us to shrink. The world needs more of our authenticity. It needs more of who we truly are. It needs us to show up as ourselves, fully and without apology.

We have got to stop hiding who we are, because fear is debilitating. Fear wreaks havoc on our nervous system. Fear makes us feel like absolute crap. And courage is what is required when fear shows up, the courage to be ourselves, to shine our light in the world, to use our intuitive gifts to make this world a better place, one authentic act at a time.
