I have been sitting with something lately. A lesson I have had to learn over and over again. A lesson that feels simple on the surface but reaches deep into the places we do not often look.

Receiving.

I have always been someone who loves to give. It feels natural to pour into others. It feels comfortable to treat someone, support someone, or take care of something so they do not have to think about it. Giving feels like home to me.

Receiving has not always felt that way.

I started noticing the small moments where someone wanted to do something kind for me. Moments where generosity was being offered with a full heart. And without even thinking, my first instinct was to make the moment smaller.

You didn't have to do that. Please let me pay you back. I insist on covering this.

All of it felt polite. It felt thoughtful. It felt like the right thing to do.

But what I did not see was the energetic cost.

Every time I deflected a gift, I blocked a blessing that was meant for me. And even more than that, I put a limit on the expansion of the person who was trying to give. Their heart was trying to open wider. Their soul was following a nudge. And I was quietly shutting the door.

The moment that really brought this to the surface was when my aunt offered me her condo for a week. My first reaction was to insist on paying her. I could feel myself tightening. I could feel the old pattern rising. And then something in me softened. I paused. I took a breath.

And I said the words that have become a practice for me. Thank you. I receive that.

It felt clean. It felt honest. It felt like I finally allowed the moment to be what it was.

The same thing happened with lunch recently. Someone reached for the check and I could feel my entire body wanting to jump in with logic. I make more. They make more. It is only fair if I cover it. The old money stories came rushing forward.

But generosity is not about math. It is about connection.

So again I paused. And I let the moment land.

This is the piece that keeps unfolding for me. When we receive, we do not just open ourselves to blessings. We also give someone else the chance to let their heart expand. We allow their love to move. We honor their intuition. We become part of their soul growth.

Receiving becomes an act of generosity.

So here is my invitation for you this week. Notice your very first reaction when someone wants to do something kind for you. Before the logic. Before the explanations. Before the pattern steps in. Just notice.

Do you shrink it? Do you qualify it? Do you try to give something back right away? Do you feel the urge to make the moment even? Do you allow yourself to receive?

There is so much wisdom inside that first instinct.
